Thoughts on Marriage

I'm getting married in a few weeks. David Cameron will never be on our guest list. Yes I agree with him that marriage is great, fabulous, wonderful, etc, etc. Yes I agree with him that a loving married relationship is the best place to bring up children. I agree that successful marriages are good for society as a whole. Families are the building blocks of communities.

Cable Street 70 years on - Have the Fascists won?

Many people turned out on Sunday to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the so called "Battle of Cable Street". It would be nearer the truth to describe it as an anti-police riot. The people who turned up on Sunday however mostly believed for whatever reason that it was a major victory against fascism in Britain. Given that there are more people voting for fascist parties than ever before and that they have greater representation now than ever before I'd like to know what a defeat would look like.

Reflections on 7/7

A year on it is necessary and right to remember those who died, those who were maimed, and those who lost loved ones. It is also essential however that we uphold those memories by ensuring they did not suffer or die in vain and that the free country they lived in is not allowed to die now that they are gone.
