A group of Tower Hamlets Councillors and activists will be travelling this weekend to Bangladesh to express support for the victims of the recent Cyclone Sidr. Speaking today, the Leader of the Lib Dem group in Tower Hamlets, Cllr Stephanie Eaton said "We will be sending our condolences to those who have lost family members and offering our support to those who are rebuilding their homes, businesses and lives."
A small group of party members including Cllrs Azizur Rahman Khan and Rajib Ahmed will be spending time in Dhaka, Sylhet and Chittagong meeting with officials from the caretaker government, British High Commission, community leaders and university professors at Dhaka University. Cllr Khan commented "We have a busy schedule of meetings but we will also taking time to celebrate Eid".
Councillor Eaton said "I am looking forward to my first visit to Bangladesh. I know I will be made very welcome. It will be a fantastic experience to see the beauty of this amazing country but I am sure the most exciting part of the trip will be meeting and speaking with local people."
