We should plan now to keep our nurseries and other services operational in the event of concern about a possible flu' outbreak.
Tower Hamlets Liberal Democrats have today asked for details of the Council's emergency plans for dealing with an outbreak of influenza in the Borough.
Leader of the Council group Cllr Stephanie Eaton said; "We must have a plan in place to ensure vital front line services remain in place in the event of a flu' pandemic. Our community is uniquely vulnerable as we have a larger percentage of children than other parts of England, and many people who live in overcrowded housing where disease can spread quickly. While we don't want to be alarmist, we think it is only reasonable that the Council has plans in place to ensure that elderly residents are cared for, that the rubbish is still collected, and children are educated if a large number of people fall ill."
Liberal Democrats have written to the Chief Executive of Tower Hamlets asking for details on the plans for dealing with an outbreak of influenza, and for specific details of what would happen if 25-50% of the Council and its contractors' staff are unable to get to work.
