Letter to press on Crossrail from Cllr Janet Ludlow

4.43.01pm UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 30th Jan 2006

I was deeply surprised to read in East End Life, a council-run publication, that the Council has "pledged to help residents and businesses to get their voices heard by Crossrail."

When did the Labour-run Council change tack?

The Lib Dems have been warning the Council for two years about the impact that Crossrail will have on our borough. Where were the Labour Councillors during that time? What where they doing a year ago? Voting against our Liberal Democrat motion to have a properly organised consultation group involving everybody affected borough wide. They didn't voice any opposition to Crossrail digging then, why now? The looming local elections in May, that's why."

The Liberal Democrats have always argued for tunnelling under the whole of Tower Hamlets, since the early 1990's, we have not changed our minds and will act as a voice for all those affected.

.

Regards,

Cllr Janet Ludlow
