Liberal Democrat Councillors Azizur Rahman Khan, Stephanie Eaton and Abdul Matin join with Conservative Councillor Phil Briscoe to remember the victims of the London bombings.

Liberal Democrat Councillors today joined with other political parties and community leaders to remember the victims of the bombings of July 7, 2005. The ceremony, led by the Reverend Alan Green of the Tower Hamlets Inter Faith Forum, took place at 11.30am in Altab Ali Park, Whitechapel. In the Town Hall, Mulberry Place, two minutes silence was observed at 1200 noon.

Across the city, people remembered those people who died, those who were injured, and their families and friends. Tributes were also be paid to the emergency service workers and members of the public who assisted the victims of the bombings.

Liberal Democrats believe that violating liberal principles in order to attain political ends is never justified. Our response to terrorism demonstrates our commitment to liberal values. We will continue to campaign for the rule of law, equality of opportunity and tolerance of difference, while resisting the urge to slip toward a war on terrorism which itself becomes terrorist.
