Welcoming new British Citizens

Councillor Stephanie Eaton, Leader of Tower Hamlets Liberal Democrats was invited by the Mayor of Tower Hamlets to be the guest of honour and to deputise for him at a Citizenship Ceremony on Thursday July 20.

Among the new British Citizens were people born in Australia, New Zealand, Somalia, Bangladesh and Chile. The ceremony was performed by Superintendent Registrar Catherine Sutton and was attended by the new citizens, their family and friends and concluded with the National Anthem.

Speaking after the occasion, Stephanie said "I was delighted to be part of this ceremony. It was clear from speaking with the new Citizens that they value the tolerance and freedoms that exist in British society and that they are keen to take advantage of the opportunities that are available in our Borough and Nation."
