Libdem visits the Centre of the Cell8.25.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 3rd Aug 2006
Liberal Democrat Councillor Stephanie Eaton today visited the Centre of the Cell, a major new Bioscience Education Centre in East London for young people, their teachers and schools. The Centre of the Cell is situated inside the Institute for Cell and Molecular Sciences, a new building for Barts and The London, Queen Mary's School of Medicine and Dentistry. The objective of the Centre of the Cell is to engage young people and schools in the principles of scientific and biomedical research, the practical work being done by researchers in the Medical School and elsewhere, and the background to many of the major scientific and ethical issues facing young people, educationally and socially. After viewing the centre, Cllr Eaton enthused "This is a fantastic facility which combines great architecture, an amazing and inspirational learning environment within a working research laboratory. When the final interactive learning pod is complete, it will provide an incredible stimulus to young people to discover the challenge, excitement and professional opportunities of scientific research and practice."
