Tower Hamlets and Hackney Lib Dems campaign on climate chaos
8.27.26pm UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 30th Oct 2006
As part of the Liberal Democrat campaign to promote a Green Tax Switch, Tower Hamlets and Hackney Lib Dems were out on the streets of London this week, talking to people and listening to their views.
Large numbers of people welcomed the campaign and signed the petition calling for greater recycling of plastics in both boroughs. Visitors to the stand spoke in support of the Lib Dem calls to switch the tax burden on to polluters e.g. raising excise tax on the most heavily polluting vehicles.
Tower Hamlets activist Stephen Clarke commented: "People are very aware of the need to address environmental issues and support the lead which the Liberal Democrats are showing in this area"
