Tower Hamlets Liberal Democrats undertake planning consultation12.17.48am UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 27th Nov 2006
The places we live and work are important to all of us. Our green spaces are precious and must be protected, but, at the same time we need more houses for local people. Local Councillors have to balance these concerns when deciding on planning applications. The Local Development Framework (LDF) is the Borough's strategy for granting planning permission. It is currently in the final stage of consultation and local people are invited to comment on the proposals. Tower Hamlets Liberal Democrats are keen to ensure the Borough's planning regulations protect and improve the physical environment. We have set up a number of working parties looking at specific issues such as: heritage and historic buildings, tall buildings, and open spaces. We are also examining the Area Action Plans for the Isle of Dogs, Leaside and the City Fringe. Leader of the group, Cllr Stephanie Eaton commented "The quality of our built environment and the protection of parks and green spaces directly affects the health and happiness of our residents. We are determined to ensure that the best policies are put in place for the Borough and that these are backed up with the strongest legal protections. We are in favour of high quality development, and we want to send out a message to developers that only the best architecture, sympathetic to the local environment and supported by appropriate infrastructure such as schools, transport and shops will be approved." We welcome your comments on the new LDF. Please email Stephanie with your views at: Stephanie.Eaton@towerhamlets.gov.uk The LDF can be view at: http://www.towerhamlets.gov.uk/data/planning/data/planning-policy/data/ldf/index.cfm
