As the Borough's representative on the Reserve Forces and Cadets Association, Cllr Stephanie Eaton today visited the London Military festival. The festival provides an opportunity for members of the public to find out about the work of the regular and reserve armed forces in the United Kingdom and abroad. Speaking with some of the Territorial Army soldiers who had recently returned from service in Afghanistan and Iraq, Cllr Eaton said "These are remarkable men and women, who take time out from their normal jobs to serve our country" She paid tribute to the employers who are prepared to release staff for tours of up to 9 months and called for more resources to support those members of the Reserve Forces who are injured in service.

Liberal Democrats have consistently and robustly opposed the war in Iraq. Despite our political opposition to the war we recognise and value the sacrifice and resilience of our armed forces in Iraq and elsewhere. We will continue to campaign for better equipment for servicemen and women in the field, improved and separate medical facilities for injured personnel, and greater support for service families. Liberal Democrats are actively supporting the Royal British Legion's "Honour the Covenant" campaign (see link for details).
