Fire on Olympics site

Liberal democrats in the Olympic Borough of Tower Hamlets today called on the Olympic Development Authority to reassure local residents in the aftermath of the fire that tore through the site this week.

Leader of the Libdems in Tower Hamlets Council, Cllr Stephanie Eaton today said "This fire has given rise to a number of concerns about the Olympics. We are worried that the haste at which development is taking place may lead to safety measures being short cut. The fire this week was a warning that we cannot afford to be careless and that we need to ensure that the safety of workers on the site and local residents is the first priority."

In the aftermath of the fire local residents were warned to keep windows closed and to cover their mouths with scarves to prevent inhalation of potentially toxic fumes.
