Rainhill Way appeal dismissed5.38.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 18th Feb 2008
Residents on the Crossways Estate, Rainhill Way, in Bromley by Bow are celebrating today's decision of the Planning Inspectorate to dismiss an appeal by Swan Housing. The decision means that residents will not be faced with an overbearing property built too close to their houses. In 2005 planning permission was granted for a 3 and 4 storey residential development on the site. Due to the site being close to the Railway, the building was constructed 3.2 metres closer to the houses at Nos 1 to 9 Rainhill Way than had been permitted. The inspector found that harm would be caused to the living conditions of neighbouring residential occupiers by the overbearing appearance of the proposal when viewed from Nos 1 to 9 Rainhill Way. Libdem Councillor Stephanie Eaton who attended the opening of the Planning Inquiry said: "I am delighted for the residents who have worked so hard to protect their properties from the impact of this development. Residents have had to fight this development several times and I hope Swan Housing now realise that this is the end of the line."
