Tributes and thanks to Louise Alexander who resigned today4.15.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 7th Mar 2008
Liberal Democrats offer tributes to Louise Alexander who has resigned today as the Liberal Democrat Councillor in Weavers Ward on health grounds. Leader of the Libdem group on Tower Hamlets Council Stephanie Eaton said: "Louise has been a fantastically hard working and committed Councillor in Weavers Ward. She is known for her passionate and effective work with residents to protect the environment of Weavers from overdevelopment. She has been a dedicated and persistent voice for victims of hate crime. She will be greatly missed by the residents of Weavers and by her colleagues on the Council group". Ward Colleagues Cllr Tim O'Flaherty and Cllr Abdul Matin added: "We are saddened that Louise's recently ill health has meant that she cannot continue her hard work as a Weavers Councillor. Her work in the ward stands as a tribute to her effort as a Councillor. Louise led on our Liberal Democrat campaign to improve the pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Brick Lane and Bethnal Green Road. This improvement will save lives and Louise should be proud that the work she has done has left a permanent improvement to the lives of everyone in Weavers Ward." Tributes to Louise have also been paid by members of opposition parties and members of the public. If you wish to be send a message to Louise please email Cllr Stephanie Eaton on Stephanie.Eaton@towerhamlets.gov.uk who will ensure it is passed on to Louise.
