Taking on the legal professionals is all in a day's work for Lib Dem Councillor Stephanie Eaton. Councillor Eaton successfully argued for concessions from the Council as the spokesperson for the Mowlem Campaign group yesterday (Wednesday).

"The hearing in the High Court where the Council was represented by 8 officers and a barrister was a real challenge" said Councillor Eaton afterwards. "But I am not easily intimidated and I just tried to put the campaign's point of view as simply as I could to the judge. He listened carefully and agreed that we have an arguable case".

The decision of the judge means that the Mowlem campaign have won an undertaking from the Council and will now be given 7 clear days notice of any intention to demolish the historic Mowlem workplace nursery. As well, the campaign team will be given an opportunity in open court to argue that the planning decision which proposes to demolish the nursery and replace it with 'container style' architecture was taken unlawfully.
