Councillor Abdul Matin grateful for your concern12.37.18am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 15th Jun 2009
Councillor Abdul Matin today offered his thanks to all who have visited the hospital and his home following the brutal assault that left him injured and on life support. Although still recovering, Councillor Matin is on the mend and is once more supporting the people of Weavers and Tower Hamlets. Councillor Matin commented: "I feel very sorry that I could not see everyone who came to the hospital or to my house. The doctors told me I had to rest and I was not well enough for visitors - but my family and I are very touched that so many people called, telephoned and sent cards and messages of support. It will be some time before I am completely healed but the messages and prayers of the community are helping me to get stronger."
During a walkabout in Weavers, Councillor Stephanie Eaton, Matin's Liberal Democrat colleague commented: "As these pictures show, Councillor Matin is very popular with the local kids who all call him 'Uncle'. So many people have told us of their concern for Matin's welfare after the vicious attack and are very pleased to see him up and about. Casework for Matin is already coming in which shows how much his work for the community is valued." Councillor Matin also paid tribute to his Liberal Democrat colleagues, Cllr Azizur Rahman Khan, Cllr Tim O'Flaherty and Cllr Stephanie Eaton for their support following the attack.
