About Stephanie EatonLeader of the Tower Hamlets Liberal Democrat Council Group
Stephanie was born in Australia, and enjoyed a typical Aussie childhood centred on beaches, barbecues and cricket. In her teens she turned her back on the sun and glorious outdoors to discover a lifelong fondness for the colour black, night-time, and Gothic novels. The influence of this period is still sometimes visible in Stephanie's wardrobe. Stephanie has lived in Australia, New Zealand, Spain and Scotland. She also has great affection for Hong Kong, where her family was based for a while. Stephanie is a criminologist at Kingston University. In her work she looks at the way our society responds to crime and deviant behaviour. Stephanie has a particular interest in sentencing and punishment; she wrote her PhD thesis on the incapacitation of dangerous offenders. Currently she works on the institutional processes for the scrutiny of criminal justice agencies and ways to make CCTV systems more robust, reactive and ethically sensitive. Both areas have significant implications for public safety and for criminal justice policy. Stephanie listens to a wide range of music from opera to noisy guitar bands. She is usually the second-last person to leave a party, especially if there is dancing to be done. She has a preference for two-wheeled transport (see photos below) and has so far avoided any major accidents. A committed Liberal Democrat, Stephanie is passionate about social justice, the environment, and involving local people in the decisions that affect their lives. She aims to place LibDem concerns at the forefront of Tower Hamlets Council decisions.
